The first “Humanity” conference, The Epic of Evolution, was held at the Lazy-K-Bar Guest Ranch in the Tucson Mountains of Arizona in February of 1995. It was organized by Russ Genet, Brian Swimme, and Loyal Rue.  Among others attending were Russ’ childhood pal, Cheryl, longtime friend, Dwight Collins, and such notables as Thomas Berry and Mary Evelyn Tucker. Russ then organized The Evolution of Humanity with Michael Corballis (Univ. of Auckland), held on a remote beach in New Zealand (accessible only by boat or trail). Dwight came all the way around the world to participate. Russ, Dwight, and Cheryl have worked together with others on several conferences since then: with David Christian on Cosmic Evolution and Big History, with Connie Barlow and Michael Dowd on Evolutionary Directionality, Emergent Complexity, and the Future of Humanity, and with a dedicated organizational team, on The Evolution of Religion.  Whether it is riding horses in February in Arizona, chasing down giant crabs for lunch on the beach in New Zealand, or surfing during the extended lunch hours in Hawaii, everyone has fun at these intellectually satisfying conferences that invite extended conversations.
